Your privacy is extremely important to us. YourAreaCode ("YAC") respects and takes steps to protect the privacy of our customers. We strive to take all reasonable care of information we may receive from you.
What Information We Collect and How We Use It
Account information. We ask for and store information about you when you create an account on the Site, such as your name, email address, and signup location. You can also import your account information from a third party to make the YAC registration process easier. We use your email address to create your account name, and we use your signup location to help target the Site to the town you live in. We use your email address to send you updates, provide services to you in connection with the Site, and to contact you on behalf of other users sending you messages, complements, and the like. We may also use your signup location, birth date, and gender (if you supply them) to display relevant advertising to you. You can change your account information here.
Public content. You can contribute to the Site in a number of different ways, including writing reviews, uploading photos, participating in talk threads, sending compliments, filling out your public profile, and voting on other users' contributions. We may store these contributions (your "Public Content"), display them to other users, and use them for promotional purposes. Note that if you include personally identifiable information in your Public Content, it can be used and viewed by others. We are not responsible for the information you choose to include in your Public Content.
Messaging. The Site allows you to exchange messages with others using the messaging feature and email. We may store these messages in order to deliver them and allow you to manage them. The Site also allows you to send information from the Site to your phone via text message. In order to carry out these requests, we may log your phone number, your carrier, and the date and time that the message was processed. Your carrier may charge you for texts that you receive.
Location data. The Site can provide helpful information based on where you are. If you tell us where you are (e.g., by allowing your mobile device to send us your location), we may store and use that information to provide you with location-based information and advertising. If you want to deactivate this feature, you can either reinstall the application or deactivate GPS on your mobile device. The Site also allows you to tell other users where you are, if you choose.
Third party services. We allow you to access third party services, such as Facebook, to share your selected Public Content with those services, and import information about who you are connected with on those other services so you can connect with them on YAC. You can always opt out on your YAC account page. Some of those third party services may also provide us with information from your accounts there to enhance and personalize your use of this Site. For example, you can allow Facebook to tell us who your Facebook friends are so you can follow their activity on YAC. You can adjust your YAC privacy settings to block this feature, in which case we will delete the information that we receive from your accounts with those other services. You can also further modify your privacy settings with those other services directly. For example, you can adjust your privacy setting on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/privacy/explanation.php to prevent your Facebook friends from sharing information about you from their Facebook accounts with Yelp.
Activity and log data. We automatically store information related to your use of the Site, such as the pages you view on the Site, your browser type, IP address, the phone numbers and names of businesses that you call through the Site, requested URL, browser language, referring URL, and the date and time of your visit. We use this type of information to administer the Site and provide the highest possible level of service to you. We also use this information in the aggregate to perform statistical analyses of user behavior and characteristics in order to measure interest in and use of the various areas of the Site.
On some of the pages on our site we may also use small bits of computer code called "one-pixel gifs," "clear gifs," or "Web beacons" embedded in Web pages to monitor the activity on our Web site. Again, the technology does not capture or contain any personal information.
Feedback. You should feel free to give us feedback, register a complaint, or ask questions about the Site. We may store your communications, including any personal information you include in them, so that we can effectively respond to you. Administration. We may use the information described above for routine administrative purposes, such as investigating abuses on the Site, responding to user inquiries and enforcing and applying our Terms of Service and Statement.
Data storage. We store data in the United States.
Credit Card Purchases. If you purchase business advertising or other YAC products and services online, we collect and store billing and credit card information. This information will only be shared with third parties who perform tasks (such as fulfilling orders and processing credit card payments) required to complete the purchase transaction. When you enter sensitive information (such as a credit card number) on our registration or order forms, we encrypt that information using 128-bit secure socket layer technology (SSL).
Your Ability to Edit Your Account Information and Preferences
You can edit your YAC Account Information, including your marketing preferences, at any time. New categories of marketing communications may be added to the Manage Notifications page from time to time. Users who visit this page can opt out of receiving future marketing communications from these new categories or they can unsubscribe by following instructions contained in the messages they receive. We reserve the right to send you certain communications relating to the YAC service, such as service announcements and administrative messages that are considered part of your YAC account, without offering you the opportunity to opt-out of receiving them. However, despite any requests to close your account or your indicated email preferences, we may still need to contact you as required by law or on legal matters, for example to inform you of any updates to our Terms of Service or this Statement.
Protecting the privacy of the very young is especially important. The YAC'S web site is not designed to attract children under the age of 18 and YAC does not knowingly collect personal information from children on our Web site. If you are under the age of 18, please do not attempt to register for YAC or provide any personal information about yourself to us. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. Third Party Advertisers and External Links
Information We Disclose To Third Parties
We may use aggregated information concerning how visitors use the Site and share such information with third parties in order to improve our Site and to help us attract advertisers and listings. For example, we may share how many individuals visited the Site and on average how long they stayed on each page. Such use and sharing of aggregated information will not reveal any of your personal information to third parties.
YAC does not rent, sell, disclose or share personal information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies except to provide products or services you've requested, when we have your permission, or under the following circumstances:
- We respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims;
YAC does not provide any personal information to the advertiser when you interact with or view an advertisement.
YAC takes your security seriously and takes reasonable steps to protect your information. No data transmissions over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Consequently, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make reasonable efforts to ensure security on our systems. However, please note that this is not a guarantee that such information may not be accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed by breach of any firewalls or secure server software we may employ. YAC continues to evaluate and implement enhancements in security technology and practices; however we can only take steps to help reduce the risks of unauthorized access. YAC has taken the following steps in this regard:
- Secure Socket Layer (SSL)
YAC uses SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption when transmitting certain kinds of information, such as registration information or payment information. An icon resembling a padlock is displayed on the bottom of most browsers window during SSL transactions that involve credit cards and other forms of payment. Any time YAC asks you for a credit card number on YAC for payment or for verification purposes, it will be SSL encrypted. The information you provide will be stored securely on our servers. Once you choose to store or enter your credit card number on YAC, it will not be displayed back to you in its entirety when you retrieve or edit it in the future. Instead of the entire number, you will only see asterisks and either the first four digits or the last four digits of your number.
- Secure Storage
All account information is stored in a database that runs on our server at our data center. Direct access to the database is available only to the developers that work in YAC's Corporate Office at 3230 Broadmoor SE Suite C, Grand Rapids, MI, 49512, United States of America. Direct access to our servers is only available through security keycode system that is monitored 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

In the event that you believe that your personal safety is at risk or if you believe that you may be the victim of identity theft or other illegal conduct, please contact the appropriate federal, state or local law enforcement agencies directly.
